Man seriously injured after jumping off Guilderland bridge
GUILDERLAND Two young men were rescued from Normans Kill Creek Saturday morning after they drank alcohol and jumped from Frenches Hollow Foot Bridge into the shallow waters 50 feet below, Guilderland police said.
The 21-year-old was seriously injured and the 22-year-old is being treated for minor injuries, police said. Their names were not released pending notification of family members.
Officers responded after receiving two calls, one at 6:46 a.m. from someone who saw the men drinking alcohol and another shortly after to report that they had jumped off the bridge, police said.
When they arrived, the 21-year-old was still in the water and semi-conscious, but unable to move due to his injuries, police said. Rescue teams from the Guilderland police and fire departments, Guilderland and Colonie EMS, and the Altamont and Slingerlands fire departments used ropes to save him, police said.
Both men were taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center, where the 21-year-old was listed in serious condition and the 22-year-old was treated for minor injuries.
