ALBANY — While he hasn't yet formally declared his candidacy for New York attorney general, Republican John Cahill's exploratory committee is asking for money.

Meanwhile, incumbent Democratic Attorney General Eric Scheiderman's campaign is asking for money to combat a new political action committee formed in New York to help unseat him.

Cahill is an attorney and former top deputy to Republican Gov. George Pataki. He has filed Board of Election papers establishing his campaign committee.

Schneiderman is an attorney and former state legislator.

The PAC opposing him has been identified as Communities for a Fair New York.

Its treasurer is a Washington attorney who has done work for the Republican Party.
