NY's snowy winter lets Whiteface extend season
WILMINGTON — The cold, snowy winter has been good to upstate New York ski areas. Whiteface may even be open until May.
Whiteface manager Aaron Kellet tells the Adirondack Daily Enterprise that the official closing date of the ski center near Lake Placid is April 13th. But he says it'll probably be open on weekends after that.
If Whiteface is able to run lifts in May, it would only be the second time in its 56-year history. In 2001, Whiteface broke its record by hosting a half-day of skiing and snowboarding on May 1.
The ski center lists its average base depth at 44 inches with all 88 trails open over the weekend and 8 inches of new snow
