Motorist, 33, charged with felony DWI after Broadalbin accident
BROADALBIN State police arrested a 33-year-old Broadalbin motorist on felony charges after he allegedly drove drunk into a tree and afterward fled the scene.
Troopers received a call early Saturday morning for a report of a dark pickup truck that was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Ridge Road, according to a news release issued Saturday.
While en route to the scene, troopers spotted a truck matching that description on Route 29 and conducted a traffic stop.
While approaching the vehicle, they noticed that it was “severely damaged” and saw that it was covered in debris from a tree.
Police say the driver, Robert M. Cannizzaro, admitted to troopers that he drank four to five beers before the accident.
Authorities charged him with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and several other vehicle and traffic law violations.
He was arraigned Saturday morning in the village of Broadalbin court and remanded to the Fulton County Correctional Facility.
