— Democrats in the state Senate, including Cecilia Tkaczyk and Neil Breslin, sent a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders pushing for more education aid in the budget.

Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins along with seven other senators are calling for an increase in state education funding and the restoration of cuts made through the Gap Elimination Adjustment.

The senators stressed the need for more funding among high need school districts in the state. They pointed to the Common Core requirements as an added burden requiring the districts to pay for additional resources to meet the standards.

This comes as Cuomo and legislative leaders meet behind closed doors this week working to strike a deal to pass the 2014-15 state budget before the April 1 deadline.
