— Saratoga County supervisors on Tuesday called on the state Department of Motor Vehicles to not require veterans to pay to have a veteran notation added to their driver’s license.

Under a law that took effect last fall, honorably discharged veterans can have a notation of their veteran status added to their license or identification card. It is done for free at license renewal, but to update a current license costs $12.50.

“Veterans who wish to proudly display their service to our country on their driver’s license or nondriver identification should not have to wait until their regular renewal date to avoid a fee from the New York state Department of Motor Vehicles,” said County Clerk Craig A. Hayner.
