— Stillwater police say a convicted sex offender drugged a 5-year-old on several occasions with prescription sleep medication.

With the help of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department, they arrested Jason P. George, 37, after tracking him down at a trailer in Johnsonville, according to a news release. During an investigation of George, police say they learned he had put sleep medication into the food of a 5-year-old on several occasions.

“The defendant’s actions caused the risk of serious injury to the child,” the release said.

The child received medical care and has since recovered. Saratoga County Child Protective Services is currently investigating the situation.

Police also learned during the investigation that George was a convicted sex offender and had allegedly failed to report his current address to the proper officials.

He is facing charges of sex offender failure to report a change of address, endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.

George was arraigned in Stillwater Town Court and sent to Saratoga County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
