Mayfield man accused of snowmobiling while intoxicated
MAYFIELD State police charged a local man with operating a snowmobile while intoxicated after they could smell alcohol on him as he rode by a trooper on Route 30 over the weekend.
Kyle R. Bonfey, 30, was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He was released on tickets returnable to Mayfield Town Court later this month.
Troopers were conducting a traffic stop near the Second Street intersection when Bonfey allegedly asked if he could ride his snowmobile around the vehicles. While talking with Bonfey, troopers could smell an odor of alcohol on his breath.
Bonfey failed a preliminary breath test and was placed under arrest, troopers said. Later at the station, his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.17 percent — more than twice the legal threshold for intoxication.
The arrest came after state troopers and state Department of Environmental Conservation officers did a joint patrol on snowmobile trails in Mayfield, Bleeker and Caroga. During the enforcement effort, numerous snowmobiles were stopped for inspection, but no violations were reported.
