Delanson firefighter recruitment bill heads to Cuomo's desk

A bill to allow Delanson Volunteer Fire Department to recruit from a larger area passed the state Senate Thursday and will go to Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his signature. State law requires 45 percent of a department’s members to live within the fire district. The bill, authored by Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, D-Rotterdam, waives that requirement for the village fire department and allows it to recruit more people from the town of Duanesburg and beyond.
