Florida Town Board backs casino proposal

The Florida Town Board unanimously passed a resolution in favor of a proposed $250 million casino resort Monday night after listening to a presentation by Clairvest Group Inc. and the Great Canadian Gaming Corp. The three-phase project would include a casino, hotel, two 18-hole golf courses, a farmers market, an events center and up to 200 residential housing units. The above article is exactly what I expressed in a previous post. We cannot afford to let an economic boost like this get away. I have previoulsy mentioned a number of positive reasons among those being expansion room, transportation routes, water.
And with the developers commitment upfront about using local businesses and labor, the idea takes on an even deeper meaning to a community that has been struggling for over 50 years to restore the tax base and employment opportunites for its residents.
Our local representatives now have to press the State to make sure they make good on their promise that legalizing casino gambling would be to help depressed locals get back on their feet. It is now time for the State to act.
