Icona Pop, R5 and Jason Derulo are putting local radio station WFLY back in the summer concert business.

The national touring musicians — along with Delmar native Dani Moz of NBC’s “The Voice” — will be part of the FLY92.3 Summer Jam 2014, which returns to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Saturday.

“We’ve taken a little hiatus from the show, about the last two years,” said station program director Ally Reid. “The last time Summer Jam took place was 2011, so we’re really excited to be doing the show this year.”

The SPAC lots will open at 11 a.m. Gates will open at 1 p.m. Indie rock act — the three brothers of AJR — will open the show at 2 p.m. Other artists performing Saturday include Timeflies, MKTO and Hot Chelle Rae.

Diverse group

Reid is glad for the diverse group of performers.

“The only reason we had taken a hiatus was the availability of acts due to busy touring schedules,” she said.

“We were really able to put up a lineup that we were really happy with. You want to put together a show that you really feel people are going to love and we feel that we’ve done that this year with Live Nation.

“Jason Derulo is a star who’s been in the area before,” Reid added, “but he’s kind of resurfaced now as a superstar — he’s everywhere. All his songs are just huge hits. We’re so excited to have him kind of lead the way.”

Reid said it’s a busy time for concerts across the country.

“I would say for pop shows this year, there’s a lot going on,” she said. “Fall Out Boy’s going to be coming up on June 24 [at SPAC], there’s our show, then Justin Timberlake in July [Times Union Center, July 16] and Bruno Mars just a couple days later[Times Union Center, July 20]. Paul McCartney, too [Times Union Center, July 5]. They just announced the Demi Lovato show that’s going to be coming in September [Times Union Center, Sept. 7]. So I think when we look at it from a pop station like ours, we’re really excited to have sort of a plethora of star acts.”

Fan bases

Reid said the Summer Jam acts have dedicated fan bases. She also said concert organizers are glad they’ve signed family pop rockers R5 for the Jam.

“A lot of families will know them from the Disney Channel,” she said. “One of the members [Ross Lynch] is a star of the Disney Channel show ‘Austin & Ally,’ that’s a really, really really exciting act to have on.”

AJR’s 2 p.m. set will be followed by pop duo Timeflies at 2:45 p.m. and Dani Moz at 3:35 p.m.

Moz will hand off to Swedish DJ duo Icona Pop, whose “I Love It” and shout-out-loud line “I don’t care!” was heard everywhere in 2013. Icona’s set begins at 4:25 p.m.

MKTO, R5, Hot Chelle Rae and Derulo will carry the second half of the show.

Reid said Summer Jam was also glad to have Moz in the lineup. The local singer was in the news in April for making live elimination trials on “The Voice.”

Local voice

“Everybody in the area was really excited to see her and how far she ended up getting on the show,” Reid said. “We’re just really excited to be able to have our own local ‘Voice’ star here and part of the show.”

Reid is also just glad the Jam is back.

“People are really excited,” she said. “The concert game is a competitive business. We just want to make sure we can give our listeners and fans a really great experience.”
