— A music festival and 23rd annual fancy hat contest are planned as part of the opening weekend activities at Saratoga Race Course.

Competition in the hat contest takes place next Sunday after the second, third and fourth races, with contestants parading in front of judges on the track apron.

The opening Sunday of the Saratoga summer season will also include the first giveaway — a Saratoga baseball cap, free with paid admission.

Saratoga's 146th racing season begins on Friday and runs through Labor Day, Sept. 1.
