Empty Amtrak train kills person on track in Schenectady

— An Amtrak train struck and killed a person on the track in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood this evening, city police said.

Department spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken said the incident happened about 8:45 p.m. near 10th and Congress streets.

He said the identity of the person is not known, nor the circumstances of the accident. He said there were no passengers aboard the train.

Late this evening, the track remained closed to train traffic as investigation continued by the department's Detective Division and Crime Scene Collection Unit.
