— State police said they confiscated heroin from a pair of fugitives whose vehicle had broken down on the Northway last week.

When troopers came to the disabled vehicle July 3, they discovered the driver — Shawn Taft, 43, of Schenectady — was the subject of an arrest warrant out of Schenectady on a misdemeanor charge and took him into custody.

Taft’s passenger, 26-year-old Christy Burnell of Plattsburgh, was determined to be wanted by state police investigators in Plattsburgh on a felony arrest warrant.

Once taken into custody, Taft and Burnell were found to have roughly 100 bags of heroin between them. Both were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in the third and fourth degrees, in addition to felony counts of criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell.

Both were sent to Saratoga County Jail after failing to produce bail.
