Amateur baseball: Indians capture tourney title

SCOTIA — Tom Favata scattered five hits and struck out six to lead the Schenectady County Indians to a 2-0 victory over the Electric City Charge in the championship game of the Monsters on the Mohawk Tournament at Collins Park Sunday.

The Indians (20-6) scored one run on an error and the second on a bases-loaded walk to Luke Mancini.

In the semifinals, Mancini went 3-for-4 with a triple, and Dimitri Aldershoff belted a two-run triple as the Indians defeated the Monreal Titans, 6-2.

Creighton sharp

ALBANY — Bill Creighton had a no-hitter through six innings and also hit a home run to spark Capital City to a 5-1 decision over the Albany Senators in the Albany Twilight League.

Dale Long broke up Creighton’s no-hit bid, leading off the seventh inning with a single. Creighton finished with a two-hitter.

Bob McLaughlin had a double, single and two RBI for Capital City (8-9). The loss dropped the Senators to 6-10.

Youth baseball

South Colonie wins

ROTTERDAM — Kyle Lambert pitched a two-hitter and also had two singles to lead South Colonie to a 4-0 victory over Bethlehem in the 14-year-old Babe Ruth all-star tournament.

Josh Anderson also had two singles for South Colonie.

Nick Grabeck, Cameron Myers and RJ Porter had two singles each as Guilderland defeated Sorensco, 9-1. Josh Howland got the pitching win and also doubled.

Guilderland scored five runs in the 10th inning to defeat Rotterdam, 8-3, Saturday night.

Arthur Horan had a double and two singles, and Ryan Campbell added a double and a single for Guilderland. Tanner Myers and Kyle Katlan added three singles each, and Chris Scheidel had a double.

Ryan Lanara led Rotterdam with two doubles and a single. Mike Stanley had two singles, and Ryan Starr had a double.

Carusone excels

GUILDERLAND — Jason Carusone belted a two-run home run, and also had a pair of singles to lead Scotia-Glenville to a 5-3 victory over Guilderland Saturday night in the Section 3 11-12-year-old Little League all-star tournament.

Tyler Cannoe (triple) and Ethan Blair (double) also had an extra-base hit for Scotia, and Aidan Ten Eyck added two singles.

Henri Li (triple), Michael Cammera (double) and Victor Cardona (two singles) were the top hitters for Guilderland.
