Teen killed in Lake Luzerne bus crash

A 15-year-old was killed Saturday afternoon when a bus overturned on its way to a rafting excursion. State police said the bus, owned by Tubby Tubes Rafting Co., was taking 31 customers and three employees to an excursion on the Hudson River about 12:30 p.m. when it overturned at the intersection of Thomas and River roads. Is a fifteen year-old legally allowed to be a rafter guide? New York has some pretty serious child labor laws and there's not a lot a fifteen year-old can legally do.

There is probably going to be some tough questions to be asked about the safety of these old school buses. Early indications are pointing to mechanical failure. What are the laws pertaining to inspection of these buses? You can bet there is going to be a scramble to update and toughen such laws and requirements.
