— The man who tried to abduct a woman near UAlbany pleaded guilty Monday.

Anthony Collins, 54, of Albany, accepted a plea deal in which he admitted to one count of attempted kidnapping.

He said he tried to abduct a girl on Oct. 4, 2013. He held a knife to her back and told her to walk in the direction of his apartment.

The victim was standing at a bus stop, and another person there saw the incident and distracted Collins briefly. The victim took that opportunity to escape on a bus, police said.

Police also said Collins tried to abduct another woman, who reported saw him coming and backed away.

Collins was initially charged with two counts of attempted abduction, but the plea deal required him to admit to only one charge. Police said only one of the two women, a college student, came forward after the incident.

Collins faces up to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced on Mar. 10.
