What about a Tappan Zee tunnel vs. bridge?
I’m surprised no one has commented on Marv Fishman’s Jan. 13 letter about the Tappan Zee Bridge project. He asked if the state had considered any alternative to a bridge; specifically whether they had looked at the possibility of a tunnel.
Has anyone done a cost-benefi t analysis — bridge vs. tunnel? Could it be that a tunnel costs more but its life makes it a better option? I should think taxpayers and toll payers would like to know.
Mr. Fishman’s view is probably right on when he says: “Decisions like this can be made more for political reasons and fi - nancial gain for some than for less costly and more feasible options.”
My experience as a businessman is that no politician, legislator or executive wants to rock the boat, even when you lay the facts in their lap.
