Griffs' late run sinks Siena women

— Cansius closed out the game on a 25-9 run as the Golden Griffins defeated Siena, 75-66, Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the Alumni Recreation Center.

The Griffins, who made seven of their final eight shots, including three three-points, overcame a career-high 25 points and 12 rebounds by Colonie High School graduate Tehresa Coles.

Canisius (8-12, 4-7 MAAC) led by 11 points early in the game, but the Saints (6-13, 1-9) ended the first half on a 22-7 run to take a 29-25 lead at the break.

Siena led by as many as seven on several occasions in the second half thanks to Coles, who scored 15 of the Saints’ first 23 points in the second half.

Siena’s last lead came at 60-58 when Meghan Donohue made one of two free throws. Canisius then reeled offseven straight points to take the lead for good.

The loss was the seventh straight for the Saints.

Kayla Hoohuli finished with a career-high 19 points, and Crystal Porter (13) and Lauren D’Hont (11) had key performance off the bench for Canisius, which earned its first win at Siena in five years.
