High schools: Stire powers Brothers to 61-39 win over Amsterdam

Greig Stire led a balanced effort with 12 points as Christian Brothers Academy defeated Amsterdam, 61-39, in the Big 10 basketball game Saturday.

Dan Owens added 11 points for the Brothers (9-4, 10-5) Jacob Foglia had a season-high 10. Alonzo Martin’s nine points led the Rams.

Ryan Bielawa (16 points), Charles Chung (14) and Xyler Woodward (11) all got into double figures as LaSalle topped Bishop Maginn, 71-31.

Jeremy Nixon had 10 points to lead the Griffins.

Matt Ferriero sank half of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk’s 12 three-point baskets and finished with 22 points in the Indians’ 61-37 win over Greenville.

Crusaders top Lady Pats

Madison Purcell scored 17 points, and Taylor Engster added 10 as Catholic Central topped Schenectady, 62-22, in the Big 10.

Camile Nowak led the Lady Patriots with eight points.

Big 10 leader Albany remained unbeaten in league play by rolling past Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, 49-28.

Leah Dollard scored 19 points to lead three Lady Falcons in double figures.

Sarah Delvecchio and Paris Jarrell teamed for 24 points for Bishop Gibbons.

Sarah Amedure’s 15 points led Greenville past Berne-Knox-Westerlo, 52-30, in a the Patroon Conference Coaches vs. Cancer event at Saint Rose.

Meghan Anagostopoulus and Hope Cerasulo scored 13 points, and Brianna O’Rourke added 11 to lift Johnstown past Amsterdam, 54-48.

Salem had four champions, three at the middle weights at this event bringing together the Wasaren League teams and select others.

Daniel VanDyk (126 pounds), Luke Fronhofer (132), Carter Merecki (138) and Jordan Keys (285) all took titles for the Generals.

Ballston Spa’s Garreck Golish won at 185.

Merecki won the lower weights (99-145) MOW, with Ichabod Crane 195-pound champion Andrew Sacco talking the upper weights MOW.
