— Quinnipiac ended the game on a 21-4 run and defeated the Siena women’s basketball team, 70-49, in the first-ever meeting between the new Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes at the TD Bank Sports Center Saturday.

Tehresa Coles and Kanika Cummings led the Saints with 10 points apiece.

In what was a tight affair for the first 33 minutes, Siena (6-11, 1-7) pulled within 49-45 of Quinnipiac (11-8, 6-3) with 6:47 to go. But the Saints missed their next 13 shots as the Bobcats rattled off the next 17 points to put it away.

Samantha Guastella scored a career-high 22 points, shooting 6-for-11 from three-point range for Quinnipiac and tied a career high with 13 rebounds. She book-ended a 10-0 second half Bobcats’ run with a pair of threes that put Quinnipiac on top for good, 49-41, with 8:38 to go.

Quinnipiac led, 28-24, at the half as the Saints were plagued by 13 first-half fouls. But Siena battled back after the break and took its final lead, 41-39, on a Kelsey Booth three with 11:35 to play. The teams exchanged the lead 10 times in the game.

Freshman Meghan Donohue added seven points and six rebounds, and classmate Emia Willingham (Albany High School) contributed six points and three steals for the Saints, who have lost five in a row.

Guastella was one of four Bobcats in double figures along with frontcourt mate Brittany McQuain, who poured in 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Quinnipiac dished out 20 assists on its 23 field goals, including nine from point guard Gillian Abshire, who added 10 points.

Siena concludes its three-game road trip Friday night at Rider at 7.
