Man charged in rash of thefts from vehicles in Clifton Park
CLIFTON PARK Authorities said an Albany man is responsible for a rash of “smash and grab” thefts from vehicles around Clifton Park over the past month and used the credit cards he stole to make purchases at local retailers.
Edward Corbett, 39, of Western Avenue, was charged with six counts of identity theft, three counts of forgery and one count of criminal possession of stolen property.
He was arraigned Friday in Town Court and ordered held without bail.
Deputies with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to six larcenies in different locations around town between Dec. 7 and Jan. 15.
In each instance, a window was smashed on a vehicle and a purse was stolen.
Investigators found that credit cards stolen in each instance were then used a short time later. Some of the stolen purses were recovered during the investigation, deputies said.
