Esperance woman charged with possession of billy club

An Esperance woman is facing weapons charges for allegedly keeping a billy club in her car. State police said troopers stopped Merreta Johnston, 23, along Route 7 in the town of Schoharie Jan. 17 for driving with no front plate, then searched her car and found the club. Johnston was charged with misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon. She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Town Court.
