Amsterdam Mayor Ann Thane issued several vetoes this week, setting up a battle with the Common Council over management of the city’s golf course. The council on Jan. 1 approved a three-year contract with longtime golf pro Joe Merendo and a five-year contract with concession operator Laura Elmendorf — ignoring a recommendation from the mayor’s Golf Commission that suggested another candidate take over. Typical Amsterdam attitude-anything new or anything other than something "approved" by the Amsterstam "old guard" is not good and certainly not worthy in the name of progress. The attitude that nothing different or new (whether its ideas,newcomers or interesting restaurants or stores) is ever good will only spell even more decline in Amsterdam. This is why I am moving to Niskayuna. Its a pity Ann Thane's hard work is wasted.
