— Shereesha Richards recorded her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, to lead the University at Albany women’s basketball team to a 69-52 victory over Hartford on Sunday in an America East Conference game.

Margarita Rosario went 8-for-8 from the foul line to finish with 12 points, and Megan Craig added 12 points and six rebounds as the Great Danes improved to 2-0 in the conference and 12-3 overall.

“I’m proud of our post players. They were getting crushed down low, and they adjusted well,” said UAlbany coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. “Our guards helped them, too, setting them up with the ball and getting them free.”

After a slow start, the Danes’ defense took control and held the Hawks (4-12, 1-2 AE) without a basket for over eight minutes, allowing UAlbany to open up a 26-10 lead.

Hartford pulled to within eight at 33-25 with 14:20 left, but the Danes went on an 11-2 run, helped by two baskets by Imani Tate, to push the lead back to 16.

The Danes will be back on the road Thursday, playing at AE newcomer UMass Lowell.
