DWI crackdown set for Saratoga County the weekend of Super Bowl
SARATOGA COUNTY The Saratoga County STOP-DWI program will fund a DWI crackdown the weekend of the Super Bowl, county STOP-DWI Coordinator Robert Murphy said.
The crackdown will run from Friday, Jan. 31, through Monday, Feb. 3, with the program providing funding for stepped-up patrols and checkpoints by police agencies throughout the county.
The NFL championship game has become a leading period when people drive while intoxicated after attending parties or watching the game in bars, enough so that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is organizing anti-DWI publicity campaigns.
The most recent crackdown in Saratoga County took place from Dec. 13 to Jan. 1. Saratoga Springs police reported making 21 DWI arrests during that period, while the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department made 15.
