Hall of Fame's Class of '14 a hit in Cooperstown
COOPERSTOWN — The good news for Cooperstown leading up to this summer's National Baseball Hall of Fame inductions got even better this week, and merchants in the upstate New York village couldn't be happier.
The baseball shrine announced Wednesday that former Atlanta Braves pitchers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine and retired Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas have been elected to the Hall of Fame. A month earlier, the Hall announced the election of three former managers: Bobby Cox of the Braves, Joe Torre of the Yankees and Tony La Russa of the A's and Cardinals.
This year's induction ceremony on July 27 is expected to bring overflow crowds into Cooperstown, which saw far fewer visitors attend last summer's ceremony because no living person was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
