Schenectady foot pursuit comes to wintry end
SCHENECTADY A 20-year-old Schenectady man tried to escape police after a traffic stop on Friday, but the recent dumping of snow across the Capital Region did little to help his efforts, police said.
Schenectady police said Winston Halliburton was pulled over in the city’s historic Stockade neighborhood around 3:15 p.m. Friday. He responded by jumping from his vehicle and leading police on a foot pursuit that took him into the backyards of homes along Front Street, police said.
Police said they eventually caught up to him, but not before he took a roll in the snow.
“The original traffic stop was for avoiding an intersection,” said Sgt. Matthew Dearing. “He had no license. The vehicle had stolen plates. It was unregistered and uninsured.”
In addition to a charge of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, Halliburton now faces charges of obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
