Traffic stop leads to multiple charges
CANAJOHARIE An Oneida County man was caught driving with a suspended license without an interlock ignition device in the village of Canajoharie on Monday.
A state police trooper pulled over 42-year-old Peter J. Geary, of Vernon Center, on Walnut Street in the village because his passenger wasn’t wearing a seat belt. During the traffic stop, the trooper learned that Geary was driving with a suspended license and without an interlock ignition device required due to a prior DWI conviction. During a search, Geary was found with a quantity of marijuana.
Geary was charged with operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device, second-degree aggravated operation of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He was arraigned in the Canajoharie village court and released on bail. He is due back in court Monday at 5:50 p.m.
