STONY POINT, N.Y. — The future of a Rockland County youth retreat center is unclear following a dormitory roof collapse.

No one was in the dorm at the Marian Shrine complex in Stony Point on Friday when the entire roof of the 2,400-square-foot wing collapsed.

More than a foot of snow that fell Thursday resulted in a number of roof collapses in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties.

The center's director, the Rev. James McKenna, tells the Journal News that Haverstraw town building inspectors also closed the gym, chapel and girls' dormitory as a precaution.

On Monday, heavy machinery was demolishing what was left of the boys' dorm.

On weekday winter nights, the dorms were used to shelter homeless people.
