Alleged Saratoga County copper thieves arrested, arraigned
Two Saratoga County men face felonies in a series of copper wire thefts around the Capital Region and southern Vermont, state police said today.
The men are also accused of taking chain saws and other tools. Their targets, police said, included area Tractor Supply stores.
Ronald G. Morelli Jr., 33, of Stillwater, and Justin E. Furgason, 33, of Ballston Spa, each currently face one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony. Other charges are expected.
The men are accused of committing the thefts over the past month from at least nine Tractor Supply stores, including ones in Saratoga, Clifton Park and Amsterdam. Other stores, including the Sears locations in Wilton and Queensbury, were also hit, police said.
Morelli and Furgason were arrested today, arraigned in Brunswick Town Court and ordered held without bail.
Assisting the state police were the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the state police Special Investigations Unit.
