18 accused of illegally receiving unemployment benefits

— A total of 18 people have been arrested, accused of illegally receiving $3,000 or more in unemployment benefits, state police said today.

One woman is accused of illegally receiving more than $22,000 in unemployment benefits.

The individuals were arrested in recent weeks after investigations by the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and state Department of Labor.

Those charged are accused of receiving benefits while they were actually working, police said.

Each of the 18 was charged with third-degree grand larceny, falsifying business records and offering a false instrument for filing, felonies.

Those charged and the amounts they are accused of illegally receiving:

Melissa Dames, 35, Albany, $13,000

Norman Marbley, 28, Albany, $13,000

Joseph Sholar, 57, Albany, $13,000

Lucianna Best, 31, Albany, $9,000

Leonard Green, 23, Cohoes, $9,000

Jason Helmer, 35, Troy, $9,000

Robert Dennis, 40, Watervliet, $8,000

Shirley Kittle, 28, Albany, $8,000

Shanta Pointer, 26, Albany, $8,000

Chrystal L. Williams, 28, Cohoes, $8,000

James Cavil, 44, Albany, $7,000

Charles Braddock, 38, Albany, $5,000

John Smith III, 59, Albany, $5,000

Vanessa Turner, 44, Albany, $5,000

David Lumpkin, 27, Albany, $4,000

Leon Collier, 35, Albany, $3,000
