College hockey: RPI rewards Freakout crowd

TROY — Mike Zalewski got Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute rolling by scoring 34 seconds into the game, and the Engineers went on to defeat Brown, 4-1, Saturday night before a sellout crowd of 4,820 on Big Red Freakout Night.

Although the Bears held junior Ryan Haggerty, RPI’s top goal scorer with 22, to one assist, the Engineers (12-12-4, 6-7-3 ECACH) had more than ehough offense to pull out the win.

Matt Tinordi scored a pair of goals, and Mark McGowan had a goal and an assist as the Engineers rebounded from Friday night’s loss to Yale.

Scott Diebold finished with 18 saves, giving up just a first-period power-play goal to Dennis Robertson.
