— Hartford avenged a 25-point loss earlier this season at SEFCU Arena by pulling away from the University at Albany in the second half for a 67-54 America East Conference victory Saturday night at the Chase Family Arena.

The Great Danes continue to struggle on the road, especially in conference games. Although they bounced back from a sluggish start to draw within 28-26 at halftime, the Hawks shot 52 percent from the floor and held the Great Danes to just two three-pointers. In their first meeting, the Great Danes sank a school-record 16 treys.

UAlbany slides to 6-5 in the conference and 12-12 overall, while Hartford ends a three-game losing streak and improves to 5-5 and 11-14.

Junior Mark Nwakamma and sophomore Taylor Dyson scored 14 apiece as the Hawks also ended a three-year, six-game winless span against the defending league champ.

The Great Danes, who were led by 14 points and 11 rebounds from junior forward Sam Rowley, stayed within striking distance, thanks to a 20-for-26 effort from the free-throw line. Adding 10 points apiece for UAlbany were Gary Johnson and Dallas Ennema.

Forcing UAlbany into three turnovers and an 0-for-7 effort from the floor, the Hawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead four minutes in and never looked back.
