— Gov. Andrew Cuomo will head to the Adirondacks for a pair of public appearances in the Lake Placid region.

The governor will be at the firehouse in the Essex County hamlet of Upper Jay late Tuesday morning for an announcement, details of which haven't been released. Last summer, the state kicked in more than $800,000 to build a new fire station in nearby Keene to replace the facility that was destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

Afterward Cuomo heads to the neighboring town of Wilmington, where he'll receive a briefing on the progress of construction on Whiteface Mountain's Veterans Memorial Highway.

The state is spending millions of dollars to improve the road on the mountain, home to a ski resort and a popular scenic tourist destination outside Lake Placid.
