NY Army National Guard gets new senior soldier
ALBANY The New York Army National Guard is getting a new senior soldier who serves as the top enlisted person in the organization.
Command Sgt. Maj. Louis Wilson of Rochester takes over from Frank Wicks of West Sand Lake during a change of responsibility ceremony being held Friday afternoon at the National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters in the Albany suburb of Latham.
As the senior noncommissioned officer in the Army National Guard, the state command sergeant major serves as the adjutant general's personal adviser for all enlisted-related issues.
Wicks, a civilian employee of the New York State Police, is retiring after more than three years as command sergeant major. He and Wilson are combat veterans with more than 70 years of combined military service.
Wilson is a retired Rochester police officer with 38 years of military experience.
