SYRACUSE Authorities say they've broken up a heroin ring that was moving large amounts of the drug from New Jersey to the Syracuse area.
Local media report that Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick and Drug Enforcement Administration Resident Agent in Charge Edward Duffy say Wednesday that 19 people have been charged since the investigation began more than a year ago.
Officials say six suspects were arraigned Wednesday morning, including the 41-year-old Syracuse man who was the ringleader. Eight other defendants have pleaded guilty and arrest warrants have been issued for five other suspects.
Authorities say the ring brought heroin from Newark to central New York. Officials say police seized 10,000 packets of heroin and $100,000 cash.
