Fonda man charged with attempted murder at nursing home
Sheriff's office says suspect tried to suffocate nursing home resident
PALATINE BRIDGE A Fonda man was arrested for allegedly attempting to kill a Palatine Nursing Home resident by suffocating the victim with a pillow Saturday night.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Edgar Morey, 73, was visiting a patient he knew when staff witnessed him attempting to suffocate the resident.
Morey was charged with second-degree attempted murder. He was arraigned in Palatine Town Court and sent to the Montgomery County Jail with cash bail set at $50,000.
Neither the sheriff’s office nor nursing home staff would release the age, gender or name of the victim.
The sheriff’s office did not provide any information as to whether Morey was related to the victim or any possible motive for the incident.
A person seated at the front desk of the nursing home today confirmed that there was an “incident” at the home Saturday night but would not go into any further detail.
Authorities said the victim was treated for injuries and remains in stable condition.
Morey and his son, Gar, run a sled dog company in Fonda called Outlaw Racing. The father-son duo have been featured in a number of local newspapers for putting on demonstrations at area schools.
Morey is also featured on the Johnstown-based Jane Isabella Gallery website where his profile says that he attended the State University College of New Paltz and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education. He then went on to teach for seven years at Mankato State University in Minnesota.
