Baseball: Bernacet, Patriots knock off Brothers

Jordan Bernacet held CBA to four hits and had two hits of his own, helping Schenectady to a 3-1 Big 10 baseball victory on Monday.

It was the first league loss for the Brothers (6-1 Big 10, 6-5 overall).

Bernacet had a double and single for the Patriots (7-3, 7-4). Nick Schmid had two singles and an RBI.

Brett Flint had two singles and two RBI as Amsterdam (3-4) downed LaSalle (8-2), 4-1. Kolbie Glionna also had two singles for Amsterdam.

Nick Gavin had three singles, and Shaker handed Shenendehowa its first Suburban Council loss of the season, 7-2.

Sean Egan had a double and single for the Blue Biston (4-4 SC, 6-5 overall). Josh Hayner led the Plainsmen (8-1, 11-1) with two singles.

Cory Moore had a double, single and scored twice to lift Guilderland to an 8-7 win over Mohonasen.

Ben Govel and Brandon Rathwell also doubled for the Dutchmen.

Justin Cullam had two singles and scored three runs for the Mighty Warriors.

Jake Smith had two singles and drove in the game-winning run in the sixth as Bethlehem edged Colonie, 5-4. Nick Politi had two singles and an RBI for the Eagles.

Columbia scored nine runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Averill Park, 11-1.

Paul Gordon had two singles and four RBI as Watervliet held on for an 11-9 Colonial Council victory over Cobleskill-Richmondville.

Cody McCumber aded two singles and two RBI for the Cannoneers (2-4 Colonial, 2-6 overall).

Brett Sommets had two doubles for C-R (2-3, 2-5), which scored five runs in the seventh. Scott Billington added a double and single.

Jesse Curtin tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight in Cohoes’ 7-1 win over Ichabod Crane.

Connor Morgan struck out 11 and gave up three hits in seven innings as Albany Academy defeated Fonda-Fultonville, 1-0, in eight innings. Kyle Lancto drove in the only run on a fielder’s choice.

Alec Hall-St. Gelais’ RBI single in the sixth inning snapped a 3-3 tie and helped Mechanicville to a 5-3 victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Nate Popiel had a double, single and an RBI for the Red Raiders (3-5, 4-7).

Joe Marasco and Zack Parsons each went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as Queensbury beat Scotia-Glenville, 4-1, in a battle of Foothills Council undefeated teams.

The Spartans are now 7-0 in the league and 8-1 overall. Nick Thomas had a double for the Tartans (6-1, 6-3).

Matt Zurich drove in three runs and fell a homer short of the cycle as Johnstown cruised to a 10-1 win over Hudson Falls.

Zurich had a triple, double and two singles. Adam Caputo had a double, single and four RBI for the Sir Bills (4-3 Foothills, 5-4 overall), and John Harris added two singles.

Colin Davis had two hits, and Jace Fox had a double as Canajoharie beat Berne-Knox-Westerlo, 9-0, in the Western Athletic Conference. Canajoharie improved to 4-3 in the WAC and 5-3 overall.

Mike Flower had a double and single for B-K-W (2-4 WAC).

After allowing a double to Danny Gregory on the first pitch of the game, sophomore pitcher Joe Schmidt didn’t allow another hit in Saratoga Catholic’s 5-0 win over Mekeel Christian Academy. Schmidt struck out 13 and walked two Saratoga Catholic (5-0, 5-0). Jake Van Patten had two doubles and an RBI.

Schoharie scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead, and it went on to beat Mayfield, 9-4.

Dylan Klock had two triples among his four hits and drove in four runs as Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville romped to a 21-1 win over Middleburgh. OESJ scored 13 runs in the first inning.

George Ostriwski had a double, single and an RBI in Greenwich’s 5-3 Wasaren League triumph over Hoosic Valley. Elliott Hansen had two singles.

John Lucas doubled for Hoosic Valley.

Nate Woodcock had three hits and RBI, and pitcher Anthony Villano struck out 10 in five innings as Corinth cruised to a 7-2 Adirondack League win over Hadley-Luzerne. James Buzinsky added a double, single and RBI for Corinth (3-0 Adirondack, 6-1 overall).

In a non-league game, Green Tech beat Bishop Maginn, 7-2. Maginn pitcher Phil Duell struck out 13.
