Baseball: Hilltoppers extend win streak

Alex Bleichner and Jim May brought home sixth-inning runs Friday as Fort Plain rallied past Galway, 5-4, and remained unbeaten in the Western Athletic Conference.

The Hilltoppers (6-0, 7-0) erased a 3-2 deficit with three in the sixth. May had an RBI squeeze bunt, another run scored on an error and Bleichner’s RBI single proved to be the game’s biggest hit.

Drew Fureno had an RBI single and three of Fort Plain’s eight stolen bases, and Kiernan Briggs also had an RBI single. Ben Manna led Galway (3-3, 3-3) with a double, two singles and two RBI.

Dylan Lanza’s third single plated two run in the bottom of the seventh and gave Mayfield (3-4, 3-4) a 15-14 WAC win over Mekeel Christian Academy.

Colden Glover had five singles for Mayfield, Matt Messina had a double and single, and Lanza got the win in relief.

Brad Smith threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts, and John Vicciarelli sparked the Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville (4-2, 5-3) offense with a pair of bunt singles in a 5-1 win over Schoharie.

Richie Martino tripled for Schoharie.

Buck Anderson, who hit a game-winning RBI single in the seventh Thursday, went 4-for-5 with a triple and two RBI to propel Canajoharie past Middleburgh, 17-3.

Zach Ruzkowski had two hits and two RBI for the Knights (3-3, 4-3), and Jace Fox had three hits including a triple.

Codey Piel homered in the bottom of the ninth for Columbia’s 19th hit, and the Blue Devils outlasted Bethlehem, 12-11, in a Suburban Council game.

Mike Faas had two doubles, a single and three RBI for Columbia (5-2, 6-3). Jake Generali had a double, single and two RBI for the Eagles (1-6, 4-6), and Jake Smith and Kevin Rooney both had two hits and two RBI.

Ben Contento had two doubles, Jeff Bink had two singles, and Colonie (4-4, 4-6) used a four-run fourth to get past Mohonasen, 6-3.

Justin Cullum had a double and single for Mohonasen.

Shaker’s Tom Kovacs and Nick Gavin had RBI singles, and Matt Polsinello allowed three hits in shutting down Ballston Spa in a 3-1 victory.

Grant Touhey hit an RBI single for the Scotties.

Chris Czekay pitched a three-hitter and Zach Formica doubled in Guilderland’s 1-0 win over Averill Park.

Justin Decker spun a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Alex Koshgarian had a triple and three RBI as Christian Brothers Academy cooled down Schenectady, 8-1, in the Big 10.

Zack Dethomasis had two hits for the Brothers. Zach Schellenger hit an RBI single for the Patriots (6-3, 6-4).

Jim Smith tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts, Nick Jacques singled two runs home, and Ben Beaury had two singles as LaSalle topped Amsterdam, 5-1.

Billy Matin backed Austin Duffney’s four-hit pitching with two homers including a grand slam, and Waterford-Halfmoon beat Berlin, 7-1, in the Central Hudson Valley League.

Matin finished with six RBI. Duffney struck out 14.

Jake Lynch had a triple, single and four RBI, and Christian Henkel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh as Hudson Falls clippeed Gloversville, 6-5, for its first Foothills Council win.

Zack Parsons fanned nine in a one-hitter, and drove in three runs with two singles to lift Queensbury (6-0, 7-1) over Johnstown, 4-0.

Dan Nellis singled in the first for the lone Johnstown (3-3, 4-4) hit.

A.J. Wells and Colin Duell picked up RBIs, and Andrew Corlew scattered six hits as Glens Falls (3-3, 5-3) beat Broadalbin-Perth, 7-1.

Connor Pingitore and Noah Martin had two hits apiece for the Patriots (2-4, 2-6).

Billy Sawyer raced home on Connor McCarthy’s squeeze bunt on the bottom of the seventh to give Cobleskill-Richmondville a 4-3 Colonial Council win over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk.

Carter Knapek pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts, Eric Woods went 3-for-3, and Trevor Francesconi and Knapek both had a double and single to carry Albany Academy (3-1, 4-1) past Ichabod Crane, 13-0.

Brandon Begin made Craig Craven’s RBI single in the third stand up as Lansingburg (6-1, 7-3) nipped Voorheesville, 2-1, at Joe Bruno Stadium.

Begin gave up seven hits and hurled shutout ball over the final six innings. Zach Child took the loss despite allowing three hits and fanning nine.

Trey Brammer spun a five-hitter and struck out eight to lead Cohoes past Watervliet, 16-2.

Anthony Sinicropi went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI, and Pat Hart blanked Mechanicville (2-5, 3-7) over the last six innings as Fonda-Fultonville (2-2, 4-2) posted a 14-2 triumph.

Hart struck out 13 and surrendered four hits.
