School softball: Shenendehowa hangs on to beat BH-BL, 8-7

Shenendehowa continued its penchant for playing close, high-scoring games Monday, taking a 7-0 lead and holding on to edge Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 8-7, in a Suburban Council game.

Brook Zeller staked the 5-1, 7-1 Lady Plainsmen to a 4-0 lead with a third-inning grand slam, then scored what proved to be the winning run in the seventh on a Nicole McCarvill single. McCarvill, a freshman, had homered earlier.

Shenendehowa was coming off an 8-7 win over Columbia and a 12-11 victory over Colonie.

Lilly Maggs and Brittany Ryan hit a three-run homer for Burnt Hillls.

Jackie O’Brien and Stacey Gordon hit two-run singles in an eight-run sixth inning as Niskayuna rallied past Ballston Spa, 9-4.

Madison Burns had a no-hitter for 52⁄3 innings, settling for a two-hitter as Columbia edged Guilderland, 1-0. Samara Perry led off the game with a home run.

Hailey Prechtel and Addison Myers both went 4-for-5, with Prechtel knocking in five runs, to lead Bethlehem past Mohonasen, 15-6.

Maria Patterson went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI, and Taylor Thompson had two hits and scored three runs for Mohonasen.

Victoria Maddalome hit two doubles and knocked in three runs, Julianna Maddalone had two RBI and Joelle Salisbury threw a three-hitter as Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons beat Albany, 6-2, in the Big 10.

Victoria Hallet had three hits and drove in three runs as Troy beat Amsterdam, 9-2, in the Big 10.

Lauren Mahar threw her school-record ninth career shutout as Schalmont beat Lansingburgh, 13-0, to move to 3-0 in the Colonial Council.

Mahar struck out 11, and was 5-for-5 at the plate. Freshman Savanna Liverio added four hits and four RBI.

Danielle McOmber threw a three-hitter and drove in three runs as Cohoes blanked Fonda-Fultonville, 10-0, to go to 5-0 in the Colonial.

Holy Names got only two hits, but beat Albany Academy, 7-6, in the Colonial. Nyla McCarthy hit three doubles and drove in two runs for Academy.

Kirstyn Alzono tossed a three-hitter and struck out 14 as Mechanicville shut out Cobleskill-Richmondville, 7-0, in another Colonial game, and Madison Saccento one-hit Voorheesville for Ichabod Crane as the Riders posted an 18-0 victory.

Sydney Foland combined with Tori Powers on a four-hitter, and also drove in three runs, as unbeaten (6-0) Duanesburg topped Berne-Knox-Westerlo, 15-0, in the Western Athletic Conference. Rachel Gamache had a four-RBI game for the Lady Eagles.

Freshman catcher Kaitlyn Handy hit a two-run homer and drove in five runs as Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johns­ville beat Mekeel Christian Academy, 23-5, in the WAC.

Brittany Pitonza had a double and two RBI as Canajoharie downed Sharon Springs, 5-1, in the WAC. Morgan Daignault doubled and drove in the Sharon Springs run.

Erika Quackenbush threw a five-hitter as Hoosick Falls opened a six-game week by edging Schuylerville, 3-1, in the Wasaren League, and Jasmine Mullally threw a three-hitter as Loudonville Christian beat Germantown, 6-1, to remain unbeaten in the Central Hudson Valley League.
