Schenectady County Legislature backs health insurance savings act
SCHENECTADY COUNTY The Schenectady County Legislature voted Tuesday to encourage the passage of the Municipal Health Insurance Savings Act.
Introduced by Assemblyman Phil Steck, D-Colonie, the bill would allow towns, villages and school districts to join county self-insured health plans as a way to drive down costs. The bill is sponsored in the Senate by Joseph Griffo, R-Rome.
“Schenectady County is proud to have one of the most successful health care cost-containment strategies in New York state — saving over $10 million annually for the taxpayers of Schenectady County,” Legislature Chairman Anthony Jasenski said in a news release.
