High schools: Lady Dutch open year with 21-9 win

Cara Quimby and Shannon Mackesey combined for 11 goals, and Guilderland pulled away in the second half to beat Columbia, 21-9, in its Suburban Council girls’ lacrosse opener Thursday.

Quimby had six goals and an assist for the defending Section II Class A champion Lady Dutch. Mackesey scored five goals, Morgan Hardt notched four and Michaela Jones added three.

Gabby Childrose scored four goals for Columbia (2-1), and Helena Masiello had three goals and two assists.

Nicole Beardsley collected five goals and eight points, and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake edged Shenendehowa, 12-11.

Mackenzie LeVan scored four goals for the Spartans. Katie Kerner had a gol and four assists for the Lady Plainsmen.

Julia Lennon sparked Shaker with six goals and an assist, and the Blue Bison topped Saratoga Springs, 15-5.

Boys’ lacrosse

Dyer nets seven

Kevin Dyer scored seven goals and set up two more, Brad Johnston worked for six goals and an assist and Guilderland beat Columbia, 19-9, in a Suburban Council game.

Mike D’Amario pumped in six goals and assisted three times, and Niskayuna put up 18 goals for the second time this week in an 18-8 triumph over Ballston Spa.

Colton Moseman paced the Scotties with two goals and two assists.

Matt Balter scored seven goals, and Albany Academy soared to a 20-2 non-league win over Troy.

Fordians win

Bilal Matin went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI, and Waterford-Halfmoon opened its season with a 10-7 Central Hudson Valley League win over Heatly.

Nick Castle had two hits and two RBI for the Fordians.

Mullally blanks Berlin

Jasmine Mullally pitched a no-hiter with nine strikeouts, and Ange Stephano clubbed a grand slam as Loudonville Christian beat Berlin in a CHVL game called after five innings, 15-0.

Stephano had three hits with a double and scored three runs.
