Area Colleges: Danes cruise in field hockey

— The Univ­ersity at Albany field hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and went on to a 4-1 victory over Lehigh Sunday to remain unbeaten.

Echo Bretz, Liza Morgan, Corrinne McConville and Daphne Voormolen scored for the Great Danes (8-0). Freshman Averill Erdody made her first start in goal, stopping one shot.

LOUDONVILLE — Fairfield handed the Saints their sixth straight defeat of the season.

KINGSTON, R.I. — Samantha Leyh’s header in the 27th minute lifted the Rams past the Great Danes in a non-conference game.

Jackie Ubert made 10 saves in her first start of the season for UAlbany (1-8).

YONKERS — Zach Hecox and Zak Giorgi scored second-half goals to carry Albany College of Pharmacy to a victory.
