Woman allegedly drives drunk wrong way on Thruway in Guilderland
GUILDERLAND A Mechanicville woman is facing drunken driving charges after she was caught early this morning driving the wrong way on the Thruway in a work zone.
Jennifer Simpson, 20, entered the Thruway at the Exit 24 ramp headed west, according to a news release issued today. But by the end of the on-ramp, she became confused and did a U-turn — but not into the eastbound lane. She began heading east in the westbound lane when she entered a work zone by Exit 24. There, a trooper observed her headed the wrong way, now going south in the northbound passing lane.
The trooper pulled her over about a mile south of the exit in the town of Guilderland. State police had to shut down the northbound passing lane of the work zone for about 20 minutes until her vehicle was removed.
Simpson was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. She was taken to the state police barracks in Albany, where her blood alcohol content measured 0.12 percent.
She was released to relatives and is scheduled to appear in Guilderland Town Court on Sept. 26.
