Airport reminds travelers not to carry toy guns on plane

— The Transportation Safety Administration is reminding travelers not to bring toy guns on flights, after an incident Saturday at the Albany International Airport.

A Guilderland man was stopped by TSA officers after the officer who was staffing the checkpoint X-ray machine spotted two guns in the man’s carry-on bag.

TSA contacted the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and deputies responded to the checkpoint. The sheriff’s deputies opened the bag and determined that the guns were actually realistic replicas.

The man, who was originally ticketed to fly to Washington, DC, was permitted to catch his flight — minus the replica guns, which were confiscated by the sheriff’s deputies.

Toy guns and replicas are not permitted in carry-on bags — where they look like real weapons on an X-ray, forcing the TSA to respond accordingly — but can be transported in checked baggage.
