Frank Murken Products celebrates 50 years in Schenectady County
SCHENECTADY Frank Murken Products recently marked its 50-year anniversary with a celebration at its 2125 Technology Drive offices.
The event was hosted by The Chamber of Schenectady County and sponsored by McNamee, Lochner, Titus & Williams, PC.
Frank Murken Products was established in 1963 by the late Frank Murken, who had come to Schenectady as a sales representative for the H.K. Porter Company.
Murken established a brick-and-mortar business to serve his growing number of customers, which included General Electric and the American Locomotive Company. This led to the establishment of Frank Murken, Inc., located on Smith Street in downtown Schenectady.
As the business grew, Murken purchased and renovated a building on Dahlia Street in Rotterdam which once housed a lumber business. Different product lines were added, including silicone products from GE Silicones in Waterford.
In 1986, Murken sold the business to Joseph Murray, who had worked in the silicone industry.
Murray added the Parker Hannifin product line, which became his primary hose and fitting distributor. With the addition of Parker Hannifin, a retail store and additional space was needed, so the company in 1997 moved to its current location in the Riverside Technology Park off Maxon Road Extension.
In 2008, FMP was purchased by John Tattersall, who had come to the region in 1986 with GE.
FMP is now segmented into three primary businesses: Hydraulic and industrial hose assemblies and fittings, custom gasket fabrication and specialty chemical distribution.
