Volleyball: Hines sparks Mechanicville sweep

Taylor Hines had seven kills, and the Mechanicville girls’ volleyball team held on in the third set to complete a 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 Colonial Council sweep of Ichabod Crane Tuesday.

Alydia Zecca had 10 assists, three kills and six service points to help the Red Raiders go 3-0 in the league.

Emily Hilton served seven aces to go with 11 digs, and Rachel Pin­eda totaled 11 kills as Schalmont improved to 3-0 in the Colonial Council with a 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15 victory over Fonda-Fultonville.

Pineda and Lauren Mahar both served four aces. Mahar also contributed 11 digs and five kills.

Miranda Nethaway paced the Braves (1-2) with seven kills, three stuff blocks and 11 digs.

Haley Irvis was a force at the net with 17 kills and eight blocks, and Christina Vastro piled up 22 digs as reigning Patriot Division champion Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (3-0) beat Holy Names, 23-25, 26-24, 25-14, 25-22.

Nicole Brower served for 25 points, and Caroline Bablin had eight kills and four blocks as 2012 state Class C runner-up Voorheesville (3-0) took down Watervliet, 25-7, 25-3, 25-7.

Imari Baird delivered six kills, Diamante Moultre had four kills and Deborah Moore served five aces to lift Lansingburgh (1-2) over Cohoes, 25-22, 25-11, 25-10.

Brielle Lazzari had seven aces among her 19 service points, and Camille Nowak came away with 10 kills in Schenectady’s 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23 Big 10 triumph over Catholic Central.

Sara DeFruscio had nine kills for Schenectady (2-0), Kristen St. Andrews led the Lady Patriots with 13 assists, and Tania Medley had 10 assists. Hayley Fitzpatrick had five kills for the Lady Crusaders.

Albany (1-0, 2-0) defeated Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, 27-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-10. Emily Brown had 24 assists and 12 digs for the Golden Knights (0-1, 1-1), Paris Jarrell had 11 kills, Julie Nichols had nine kills and eight digs, Caroline Bouchard had 13 points and four aces, and Jenn Cerutti had 11 digs.

Jessica Dillon assisted on 19 points and had five kills as part of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s 25-17, 25-15, 25-4 Suburban Council win over Ballston Spa.

Natalie Schurman had nine kills and six digs for the two-time defending state Class A champion Spartans (4-0, 5-1).

Jess VanDoren collected five kills, 12 assists and 12 service points, and Darina Relyea and Mckenzie Smith were net standouts with a combined 11 kills in Guilderland’s 25-21, 22-25, 30-28, 25-16 win over Colonie.

Relyea had six kills and three blocks, and Smith had five kills and four blocks for the defending South Division champs (2-2). Casey Schreiner had 19 assists for Colonie, Julia Dyer had six kills, and Erica Harnell had five kills.

Bethlehem (3-1) rallied past Averill Park (3-1) behind Jenna Giacone’s 11 kills and 10 blocks, 19-25, 28-26, 17-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Katie Ludder had nine kills and 33 digs for Averill Park, Jackie Kindlon had four aces and 36 digs, and Andrea Debolli added four aces.

Michelle Paulsen had 14 kills, 12 blocks and 13 points, and Taylor Murphy had nine kills and nine blocks as Shenendehowa (2-1, 2-1) battled back for a 20-25, 27-29, 26-24, 25-17, 25-21 win over Saratoga Springs.

Gabby Agresta had six kills and six blocks for the Lady Plainsmen. Sophy Levine had 19 points and 13 kills for the Blue Streaks (3-1),

Colette Piasecki-Masters amassed 40 assists with 13 digs and 11 points, and Kaela Bonaquist added 11 digs.

Columbia (5-0) got six kills and a pair of aces from Sarah Jaromin in a 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 win against Mohonasen.

Shayanna Logan had eight kills and five aces, and Emma Stortecky came through with 16 points, four aces and 12 assists as Canajoharie beat Schoharie, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, in the Western Athletic Conference.

Abbey Dearwester had six kills and seven assists for the Cougars, Shelby Meade had five kills, and Grace Adams had eight points. Grace Gathen had 11 points for the Indians.

Emily Schumaker served for 17 points, including 12 aces, in Waterford-Halfmoon’s 25-2, 25-7, 25-4 Central Hudson Valley League win over Hawthorne Valley.

Michaela Miller had 19 points, seven aces and three kills for the Fordians (1-0, 2-0).

Ashley West, Victoria Brown and Victoria Twombly served seven, six and five aces, respectively, in Loudonville Christian’s 25-10, 25-12, 25-10 CHVL win over New Lebanon.

West had four assists and four digs.

Gloversville (3-0) got nine aces and seven assists from Jenna Putnam in a 25-13, 25-14, 25-7 non-league win over Amsterdam. Chelsey Biasini had four kills and Stacia Griesemer had three aces for Gloversville.
