City police are awaiting the results of a morning autopsy to help them determine how a woman found dead inside a city welding shop Tuesday died, police said.

Police know who the woman is, but are not releasing her name pending a determination on her cause of death, police spokesman Lt. Mark McCracken said.

If the cause of death is ruled a suicide, McCracken said, her name would not be released.

Meanwhile, city police remained at the Swett & Swett Welding and Ornamental Iron this morning and will remain there until a determination is made, McCracken said.

The body was discovered Tuesday, just after 1:30 p.m., by workers at Swett who had returned from lunch. After finding the woman’s body in the work area of their shop they immediately alerted police.

Police on Tuesday evening were trying to determine how the woman died, along with whether she had any connection to the business and whether the doors were locked when the employees were gone.

Police were also looking for a vehicle believed connected to her.

McCracken said this morning that detectives were busy at the autopsy and he had yet to speak with them to get further details on the investigation.

The welding and iron business is at the corner of Strong and Wyllie streets and sits within sight of Brandywine Avenue, behind the Brandywine Hess gas station parking lot.
