Lia Group buys car dealership in legal trouble
SARATOGA SPRINGS A Saratoga Springs car dealership that was the subject of a state police investigation and several lawsuits last year has been purchased by Lia Auto Group.
Saratoga Springs Nissan, at 2906 Route 9, is now Lia Nissan of Saratoga, according to a news release issued Tuesday. The dealership opened to the public under the new name Tuesday, becoming the 18th Lia Group dealership in the Northeast.
“We are excited to expand our footprint with the Nissan brand to include Saratoga County and look forward to providing for the automotive needs of this burgeoning community,” co-President William Lia Jr. said in the release.
About 50 employees are working out of the 30,000-square-foot facility, which is suited to handle all sales, service, general parts and collision repair needs and offers an inventory of new Nissan car and truck lines. In addition, the facility offers express service and a drive-in service bay.
All new-car customers will receive a complimentary maintenance agreement. Complimentary loaner vehicle and shuttle service will be offered when available, and Nissan rental cars will also be offered on-site.
State police executed a search warrant on the dealership in May 2012, seizing numerous business records after fielding complaints from several customers. That same month, cousins from Albany and Troy filed suit against the dealership, alleging it had made false promises to get them to buy cars they didn’t want, inflated prices without explanation and submitted paperwork to a lender with fake signatures. A similar accusation was filed in a separate lawsuit five months later.
